Welcome to Mrs. B's blog! This is a place where I will communicate with you about the happenings of a school counselor. For now, I am still studying to be a school counselor and will share experiences and insights I learn about the classroom and our students as I learn more. In the future, it will be my communication to the students and parents in the school community I provide for.
For now, I am a 5th grade teacher in a small school in Montana. I am also, as you read above, working on my Master's degree in School Counseling through Walden University. When I am not grading papers or writing papers, I am a mom of a wonderful 1 year old boy and wife of 4 years.
Keeping these same additions in mind, I also created this office.
I designed this office with a little more privacy in mind. I would like the bookshelf to be solid so that a student who is having an especially hard time could take some time to calm down and think about things before feeling obligated to talk with me. They would, obviously, need to check in with me with at least eye contact before going around the barrier, but it could be a safe place to calm down if a student needed it. If I had the choice, and the funding, I would also add another bookshelf in between the couch and the set of chairs in order to add more privacy to that area. Again, I would like a window, a carpeted area, and artwork to spice the room up and make it my own.
Thank you for reading my very first blog post as a potential school counselor. Please come back in the future!
